Plesk Basic Setup

  • login to Plesk <https://_your_ip_here_:8443/>
  • Create your first domain by clicking on "Domains" under the "General" section of the side bar
    • Click "Add New Domain"
    • Select the "My Domains" client.
    • Fill in the primary domain of the server in "Domain Name", we'll use yourdomain.com (This is usually the one you used when you signed up)
    • Select the hosting type that you want (Typically "Physical hosting")
    • Select any options that you need/want
  • After creating your first domain, you'll want to add nameserver records, so your server will actually be useful.
    • Click on "Domains" on the side bar, then test.com
    • Click on "DNS"
    • Check the boxes next to the following records:
      • _your_ip_address_ / 24 PTR yourdomain.com.
      • ns.yourdomain.com. A _your_ip_address_
      • yourdomain.com. NS ns.yourdomain.com.
    • Click on "Remove Selected"
    • Now click on "Add New Record"
    • Set "Record type" to "A", "Enter domain name" to "ns1", and "Enter IP address" to one of your IP addresses
    • Repeat the above step for ns2, and use a different IP address
    • Repeat above, except set "Record type" to "NS", leave "Enter domain name" blank, and set "Enter nameserver" to ns1.yourdomain.com
    • Repeat above for ns2.yourdomain.com
  • Now you'll want to make ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com the default for all new domains on your VPS
    • Click on "Server" under the "System" section of the side bar
    • Click on "DNS"
    • Check the boxes next to the following records:
      • <domain>. NS ns.<domain>.
      • <ip> / 24 PTR <domain>.
      • ns.<domain>. A <ip>
    • Now click on "Remove Selected"
    • Click on "Add New Record"
    • Set "Record type" to "NS", leave "Enter domain name" blank, and for "Enter nameserver", enter ns1.yourdomain.com
    • Repeat above for ns2.yourdomain.com
  • Now you will need to register ns1 and ns2.yourdomain.com as nameservers at your registrar. If you are registered with Spry, then you can follow the steps in the Spry billing system guide
